One of my favorite parts of our eclectic Christmas tree is all the handmade, and especially kid-made ornaments.
When my oldest was almost 1, we were about to buy a house, were on a budget, AND I wanted to remember my babe in this season and create a sweet gift for grandparents and family members. This started an annual tradition of Handmade ornaments and are also a fun way to remember a special trip to the beach, a favorite memory or special person.
Below you’ll find many of our homemade ornaments over the years.
- Bottle Cap Thumbprint - baby thumb print made into a cute holiday image - we chose a Christmas tree
- Cookie Cutter Scribbling - take your kids finger painting or scribbles and cut out the shape + glue inside your cookie cutter.
- Popsicle Stick Snowflake
- Yarn Popsicle Stick Star
- Perler Bead shapes - awesome for fine motor skill building too!
- Pressed Flowers laminated (also makes a great bookmark) or in clay
- Shrinky Dinks - this is a fun activity with friends
- Family Heirloom Pin - string a ribbon through a pin or other family jewelry piece for a sentimental statement
- Paper Trees, Stars or Pinwheels
- Fabric Donut - a fun beginner sewing project.
- Beach Finds - string your driftwood or seashells with a jingle bell - instantly festive!
- Watercolor Paper House - look up origami or paper craft ideas for your kids watercolor brush strokes.
Not only do these ornaments freeze a moment in time about my kids, what their interests were, our family and adventures, but they are also a budget friendly gift option. Paired with handmade treats, they have made the perfect meaningful, yet minimalist gifts over the years.
