Moving cross country with babies and toddlers is no easy feat. Unpacking takes 10 times as long, so I’m glad I was able to help my friend make some headway in their mudroom/office space.
We discussed goals for the space and a plan to work through over time, which included some layout shuffling, minimizing, moving all the books that didn’t serve a purpose here down to the built-ins in the basement, and creating a cheerful aesthetic. I love how this space is coming together over time!

We use spaces in our homes so much differently than just a generation ago. I love creatively approaching a space with families to make their rooms work more purposefully for them today.
This formal living room stored books, but was ready for a pulled together retreat for mom that was free of screens, but also provided space for growing kiddos to work on puzzles and homework that didn’t take over the dining table. We created a plan to really showcase their extensive library, including many classics from childhood, with built-ins, custom made by Cary’s Mill Woodworking. They provide the perfect space for books, craft and game storage, and most importantly displaying their Ravenchase escape room trophies won during favorite family outings. Those make it!
