Holding Space and Making Room for Joy at my Kitchen Table

Making Room for Joy

A new year, oh the possibilities. Do you love it? Or maybe it weighs you down because the thought of not accomplishing a “resolution” or goal has left a bad taste?

How about intentions? Perhaps a gentler way to guide your year without any specific goal in mind, but presence. This sits more gracefully with me. My phrase of intention for 2020 is to “Hold Space”. To literally let space be for whatever may come - for people, for opportunities, for rest, for adventure, for spontaneity, even for messiness. I confess, I don’t easily hold space - I like to feel control and enjoy efficiency and productivity. So, opportunities are sometimes missed and resentment can creep in and perfectionism can become my end goal. I expect (hope?) I am not alone in this.

Simple Celebrations

What expectations do you have for yourself as you plan celebrations? A large party for every birthday? Made from scratch cake or Pinterest-worthy theme decorations? Spending a fortune? (You’re getting a window into my heart 5 years ago!) How can presence over perfection in these areas help you to enjoy the celebrations we are blessed with each year? These are the ways that I have shifted my approach with a steep learning curve.
